Cemetery owner charged with theft

? The Kansas Attorney General’s office has filed a temporary restraining order and injunction against a Hutchinson woman accused of stealing more than $800,000 from two cemetery trust funds.

Sharon McDonough, 70, owner of Fairlawn Burial Park, and co-owner of Heritage Funeral Home, is charged with 16 counts. Prosecutors allege she took the money between 2002 to 2005 from more than 10,000 victims.

The Hutchinson News reports that the attorney general’s office on Monday also filed a petition in Reno County District Court to appoint a receiver to manage the affairs at Fairlawn Burial Park.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Sept. 15.
