— Miss the carnival rides, shaved ice and animals of the Douglas County Fair that ended Saturday?

You’re in luck.

The 83rd annual Leavenworth County Fair begins Tuesday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds in Tonganoxie along Kansas Highway 16.

A parade begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and will travel through downtown. The theme is Barnyard Safari. A draft horse pull will follow at 8 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

Other highlights include a daily carnival, rodeo on Wednesday and Thursday, Stompers 4x4 Mud Run on Friday, and a demolition derby on Saturday.

On Saturday, there also will be a pie-eating contest at noon and turtle races at 1 p.m.

Event parking is $2 and free shuttles will run to and from the parking lots from 4:30 p.m.-10 p.m. each day.

For more information about this year’s fair, call the fair association at (913) 845-3457.
