Write-in candidates win posts in Linwood

The people have spoken, and even though no one filed for Linwood mayor or for one of three open seats on the city council, two residents will fill those positions.

On Thursday, Henry Biera announced he would accept the council position he was elected to by receiving the most votes — seven out of 20 write-ins.

“I’m going as long as I make the meetings,” Biera said.

Biera served on the council several years ago, when he filled an unexpired term for about a year.

In the Linwood mayoral race, Edward Morris received the most of any write-in candidate, with five of 24 votes, making him the mayor.

Janet Klasinski, Leavenworth County Clerk, said she had contacted Morris, who said he would accept the position.

Biera will be joining Michael Dunivan and Georgiana Smith, who filed for council positions and won. The top three vote-getters are elected to those open seats.

A total of 74 people voted for council candidates and 24 for mayor.
