Company donates medicine to program

April 16, 2009

— An Overland Park company is donating $250,000 worth of unused prescription drugs to medical clinics across Kansas.

Prescription Solutions, a unit of UnitedHealth Group, said Wednesday that the drugs will go to 36 clinics in 30 Kansas cities. The first $70,000 of drugs went to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, with the remainder going out over the rest of the year.

The donation is the first under a state law that went into effect Jan. 2 allowing adult care homes, mail service pharmacies and medical care facilities to donate unused prescription medicine to safety net clinics and federally qualified health centers.

Hopefully, Heartland Medical Clinic will be in line to receive some of these drugs ...
