Kansas lottery ticket brings in $100,000

Lawrence resident Richard Norman now doesn’t have to worry about how he will pay for his vacation next week to Washington state.

On Wednesday, on his way home from work at the Schlumberger Lawrence Product Center, Norman stopped at the Swansea Inc. convenience store, 1801 W. Second St., and bought a $20 Kansas Lottery Instant Jackpot scratch ticket. He waited to scratch the ticket until he was sitting in his truck at a car wash.

“I knew I had to be looking at the ticket wrong, so I put my glasses on, and sure enough I did win $100,000,” Norman said.

The 30-year Schlumberger employee immediately returned to the store, and he was so excited that the store’s owners offered to drive him to Topeka after they verified he had the winning ticket.

“They’re great people,” Norman said. “Awhile back, another customer won $10,000 at the same store on the same game. That’s why I decided to buy that game. I can’t believe it.”
