A former high school teacher from Ottawa was arrested Thursday on suspicion of unlawful sexual relations with a student, the Franklin County sheriff said Friday.

The arrest was the result of an investigation of sexual conduct between the 27-year-old man and a 17-year-old student at Central Heights High School in Richmond, where the suspect was a teacher, Sheriff Craig Davis said.

The suspect is being held at Franklin County Jail pending charges by the Franklin County attorney's office, the sheriff said in a news release.

Whether both parties were willing or not, the teacher should definitely be held accountable. We have high school girls in my town that for homecoming wrote "ur sexy, ur a hotty, c u in class love jane doe"on a young male teachers windows of his house with shoe polish or something and it's still on his windows. Calling a teacher sexy is definitely crossing lines but to leave it on your windows for 3 weeks is only encouraging that kind of behavior. Agreed or am I just a big stick in the mud? I know I only graduated 7 years ago but I didn't understand what is right and wrong like I do now. Shouldn't the teacher address the situation or at the very least, wash his darn windows?

Denny's Law was passed in 2006 to punish and prosecute educators who abuse their position of power, authority and trust with students.
