Commissioners support sanitary code changes

Douglas County commissioners Wednesday voiced support for changes to the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department’s proposed changes to the county’s sanitary code.

The revisions mostly were made after the county reworked its subdivision regulations and to be in compliance with Kansas Department of Health and Environment regulations on approving design and construction of septic tanks.

However, commissioners delayed a vote on the changes until the consent agenda at the 8:30 a.m. Monday meeting to give one more opportunity for public comment, and so they could further review the proposed changes.

Commissioners also approved October proclamations for Community Planning Month to honor planning commission volunteers and community groups, and Disability Employment Awareness Month to honor Cottonwood Inc. and other employers.
