Kettle gets gold coin

November 27, 2008

— A single coin makes a $1,000 difference for the Salvation Army in northeast Kansas this holiday season.

An anonymous donor dropped the gold coin into a Salvation Army kettle outside a Johnson County supermarket over the weekend.

The one-ounce U.S. Mint American Buffalo coin is worth at least $1,000.

A gold coin turned up in a Salvation Army kettle in Topeka two Decembers ago. But it’s been several years since one was donated in the Kansas City metro area.
