Wichita ? A black man awaiting sentencing in the death of his pregnant girlfriend says the fact that an all-white jury convicted him will be part of his appeal.

The Wichita Eagle reported Wednesday that Elgin “Ray Ray” Robinson Jr. said in a jailhouse interview that when he saw that there were no minorities on the jury, he knew he had no chance of acquittal.

Chelsea Brooks was 14 years old and pregnant with Robinson’s child when she was killed.

Prosecutors said Robinson orchestrated Chelsea’s death, and a jury convicted him Oct. 22 of capital murder and rape, among other charges.

A sentencing hearing for the 22-year-old is set for next week.
