Topeka ? On the eve of what’s expected to be a more pessimistic budget forecast, some of the numbers don’t look so bad for Kansas.

Preliminary figures from the Department of Revenue show that in the bulk of its tax collections for October, the state met existing predictions.

The department says that the state received nearly $445 million in October from the taxes that the agency collects. That’s about $700,000 more than anticipated – a difference of two-tenths of 1 percent.

The department figures don’t include insurance premium taxes, which are collected by the Insurance Department.

It’s numbers were good news, given the faltering national economy.

State officials and university economists expect to issue a new fiscal forecast Tuesday.
