Buhler ? A Buhler man died after apparently driving his SUV into the swollen Little Arkansas River.

Scotty M. Henry, 20, drove off the road southeast of Buhler at 2:49 a.m. Friday.

A witness called 911 and told dispatchers he had pulled the victim’s SUV out of a ditch just prior to the accident. After getting out of the ditch, Henry drove away and appears to have driven off the bridge into the river.

Reno County Sheriff’s Capt. Wayne Baughman said the river is higher than normal because of recent rains.

Rescuers called a scuba diver from the Hutchinson Police Department to retrieve the car. Baughman said Henry was dead by the time emergency responders got to him.
