Fort Riley soldier from Texas killed in Iraq

— A soldier from Fort Riley was killed Saturday by small arms fire during combat operations in Baghdad, Iraq, the Defense Department announced Monday.

Spc. William D. O'Brien, 19, of Rice, Texas, was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

To date, 144 soldiers or airmen from Fort Riley have died in Iraq or Afghanistan.
