Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence police arrested three people after a chase through the downtown area Saturday night. Shortly after 11 p.m., a person reportedly stole a soda from Presto Convenience Store, 602 W. Ninth St., Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel said. The suspect’s vehicle, a white Chevy truck, headed east on Ninth Street. Police first spotted the vehicle leaving the area with no headlights on, Hubbel said. The truck continued eastbound at about 60 miles per hour and passed through the intersection of Ninth and Massachusetts streets. It slowed at Ninth and New York streets, then attempted to turn north at the intersection of Ninth and New Jersey streets when it struck a tree, Hubbel said. The driver, a Lawrence man, started walking away. He refused to stop when ordered, and police threw him to the ground and handcuffed him, Hubbel said.

The call came in at 11:17 p.m. and the incident ended two minutes later, Hubbel said.
