Teen mom to be tried for abandonment

? A Kansas teenager whose 6-week-old daughter was found alive in a trash bin will be tried on a child abandonment and endangerment charge.

Eighteen-year-old Diedre Harman of McPherson waived her right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday. Her arraignment is scheduled for next month.

Police said Harman called 911 on May 28 to report that the baby was abducted from her home while she was showering. She told police that a relative may have snatched the child, but that claim was unfounded.

An officer searching an alley near Harman’s home found the infant in the trash bin. The child was taken to a hospital and appeared to be in good health. She is now in foster care.
