Workmen for Weiser Tent of Monette, Mo., from left, C.J. Flower, Dustin Bolze and Matt McCarter put up the main tent for Chautauqua on Wednesday June 18, 2008. The Chautauqua events will be held in South Park after the Band Concert on Wednesday night and each night thereafter through Sunday.
Tonight in South Park the 1930s will come alive.
The Chautauqua tent went up about 10:30 this morning to prepare for tonight's historic performance.
Today at the Lawrence Public Library, kids learn all about the 1930s through locals who lived through them.
The kids taking part in the Youth Chautauqua Camp will pick local figures to perform as - and the history behind the act is what gets the young kids excited.
The youth Chautauquans won't be taking the stage until Sunday night at 5:30, but tonight the adult Chautauqua starts at 7:30 and goes through Sunday on the west side of South Park in downtown Lawrence.
