Tonganoxie Days this weekend
Tonganoxie Days literally will go out with a bang this year.
Saturday’s festivities will conclude with an aerial fireworks display at Chieftain Park. The display is new to the event, which is in its 23rd year.
The one-day event begins at 7 a.m. with 10K and 5K runs and a 5K walk. The weekly Tonganoxie Historic Farmer’s Market will begin at the same time in high school parking lot.
About 80 vendors will be downtown starting at 9 a.m., but events also are planned throughout the city, including: a quilt show and antique tractor and car show at Tonganoxie Community Historic Site; the annual Leavenworth County Barbecue Championship, Leavenworth County Miniature Horse Club Show and Miss Tonganoxie pageant, and a wood-carving competition at Leavenworth County Fairgrounds; and a car show and Flag Day ceremony at VFW Park.
At 1 p.m., an open house will start for the soon-to-be-finished Tonganoxie Water Park, with music provided.
