Road construction begins at KC airport

Construction began Wednesday on the five-lane International Circle roadway at Kansas City International Airport. The construction is expected to be complete by July 27 and will repair pavement deteriorated by road salt and heavy traffic.

The $870,000 project involves International Circle, from the Terminal C exit to the airport’s main entrance road, Cookingham Drive, as well as part of the outbound Cookingham Drive, from International Circle to the off-ramp of Paris Street. A short section of Brasilia Avenue, mainly used by vendors and employees, also is part of the construction, and will require a detour.

Most of the work will be at low-traffic hours, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., when the roadway will shrink from two lanes to one. The street will remain two lanes during the day.
