A member of the Eudora Planning Commission filed Monday as a candidate for Douglas County Commission.

Ken Adkinson, who lives in rural Eudora, wants to represent the 2nd District in a seat now filled by County Commission Chairman Bob Johnson, who is not seeking re-election.

The district covers North Lawrence and much of southeast Lawrence, plus the bulk of southeastern Douglas County, including the cities of Eudora and Baldwin City.

Adkinson, a 65-year-old Democrat, is the fourth candidate to enter the race in the 2nd District, joining fellow Democrat Nancy Thellman, of rural Lawrence, and Republicans Grant Eichhorn, of rural Lawrence, and David L. Brown, of Baldwin City.

The filing deadline is noon today. A primary is set for Aug. 5, and the general election is Nov. 4.
