Offices, services to close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Most government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

They also will be closed in most area towns. All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and federal courts. Douglas County district court also will be closed.

Kansas University classes will not be in session, and KU offices will be closed.

Most banks will be closed.

Lawrence Transit System and T Lift buses will operate regular routes. KU on Wheels buses will not run.

The holiday will not affect city refuse and trash collection. Parking will be free Monday in downtown Lawrence.

The Lawrence Public Library will be open regular hours.

Lawrence recreation centers at Holcom Park, the Community Building and East Lawrence will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. South Park Recreation Center will be closed.

Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed. Aquatic Division offices will be closed, but the Indoor Aquatic Center and Carl Knox Natatorium will be open.

Eagle Bend Golf Course will be open, weather permitting.

Senior Services of Douglas County will be closed, which means no senior meals, no bus services and dining centers.

The U.S. Postal Service won’t make regular deliveries, and the post office’s business center will be closed. Express mail deliveries will be made.

FedEx and UPS will make regular deliveries.

The Journal-World will be open regular hours.
