Caucusgoers must be registered to vote

The Kansas presidential caucuses are set for the first week in February, with the Democratic caucus Feb. 5 and the Republican caucus Feb. 9.

Only registered voters may caucus on behalf of their favorite candidate. The Kansas Democratic Party is allowing people to register at the door, but Craig Campbell, chairman of the Douglas County Republican Party, said Republican voters must be registered in advance of the caucus.

In order to ensure all eligible voters are able to participate, Campbell suggested registering by Tuesday. He said to bring proof of registration to the caucus, held at South Junior High School, 2734 La., as an added precaution.

Registration is available through the Kansas Republican Party’s Web site, www.ksgop.org, and the Kansas Democratic Party’s site, www.ksdp.org.
