Hearing continued over highway deaths

A hearing for a woman accused of running over two highway workers and fleeing from police was continued Thursday in Osage County District Court.

Ramona Morgan, 48, has hired a new attorney, William Rork, of Topeka, to represent her. No date has been set for a new hearing.

Morgan is charged in Osage County with fleeing and attempting to elude police, as well as other charges, stemming from the Sept. 11, 2007, incident that began on U.S. Highway 59 south of Lawrence. In Douglas County, she is charged with two counts of reckless second-degree murder in the deaths of the highway workers.

Morgan remains in the Osage County Jail on $1 million bond.
