Internet solicitation brings 5-year sentence

? An Ottawa man was sentenced Monday to five years in federal prison for using a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.

Roger A. Butter, 42, will be required to register as a sex offender and after serving his sentence will be placed on five years of court-supervised release.

In a guilty plea entered in October, Butter admitted that in November 2003 he began communicating with a girl living in Tennessee whom he met in an Internet chart room. During conversations via computer through November 2004, Butter made numerous references to having sex with the girl.

In May 2004, Butter traveled from Kansas to Tennessee to meet the girl. His plans were disrupted, however, when the girl brought her sister along to meet him at a store in Selmer, Tenn.

The FBI investigated the case.
