AG seeks money to fight cyber crime

Attorney General Stephen Six is asking legislators to add $430,000 to his budget so that he can do a better job of fighting Internet crime.

The money would allow Six to hire four new employees. One of those employees would educate the public about Internet threats while two others would investigate Internet crimes. The fourth would prosecute criminal cases.

Six outlined his proposal Monday during an appearance at a southwest Topeka elementary school.

He also met with students who have been trained on avoiding becoming victims of Internet predators. The attorney general’s office already has a cyber crimes unit, but Six says his office needs more resources to fight Internet-based crime effectively.
