Mother charged with murder after attack

? A Great Bend woman was charged Friday with second-degree murder after her 3-month-old son died following a beating in a hospital pediatric unit.

Megan Mott, 23, is being held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled for a Feb. 20 preliminary hearing.

Her son, Robby Cox, died early Friday at Wesley Medical Center, almost three days after he suffered three skull fractures and bruises on his torso, said Police Capt. Randy Landen.

Robby had been hospitalized since Dec. 31 with respiratory syncytial virus. Police said Mott was alone in her son’s private room early Tuesday shortly before alarms began going off.

Nurses noticed new injuries and Robby was moved to the pediatric intensive care unit.

“We have a theory on what happened,” Landen said, declining to elaborate. “Some of that will come out in court.”

Hospital officials said they couldn’t find any unusual circumstances contributing to the attack.

“The protocol was handled perfectly by our pediatric staff,” said spokesman Paul Petitte. “We’re always looking at our policies for ways to improve them.”
