Suspect in slaying had criminal record

? A Hutchinson man who is being held on $1 million bond in his wife’s death had a history of domestic violence.

The Hutchinson News reported on its Web site Friday that 30-year-old Stephen W. Jones was convicted in 2004 of attempted aggravated assault.

Reno County District Court Records show Jones initially had been charged with domestic battery in the case and that he was released from supervision in 2005 after successfully completing probation, the newspaper reported.

Sabrina Jones — who had been subpoenaed as a witness in the 2004 case — was found dead in her apartment early Thursday after officers were asked to check on her welfare. An autopsy on the 30-year-old woman was conducted Friday, but details were not immediately released.

Stephen Jones was arrested without incident Thursday at a relative’s home in Hutchinson.

He remains held on suspicion of first-degree murder while prosecutors study possible charges.

Jones’ bond was doubled Friday to $1 million.
