Woman pulled popcorn scam, police say

? Police say a woman scammed Leavenworth residents out of more than $600 by pretending to sell popcorn for the Boy Scouts.

Sgt. Jim Bridges says police have received 35 reports about the scam. They’ve turned them over to the county attorney’s office for possible prosecution of a 31-year-old suspect, whom they’ve declined to identify.

Bridges said the alleged crimes date back to sometime in October and continued this month.

Police say the woman visited homes and downtown businesses asking people to place orders for popcorn to raise money for the Scouts — and requesting money up front.

They also say she indicated she was collecting money on behalf of a sick child.
