Ride to benefit victims of multiple sclerosis

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s annual Bike MS for Eastern Kansas will be Sept. 20 and 21.

Approximately 300 cyclists will ride through Topeka, Eskridge and Burlingame. The ride is a benefit to raise money for multiple sclerosis research and programs. The disease affects more than 400,000 people in the United States and 2.5 million people worldwide, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Registration is from 5:30 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. today at Washburn Rural Middle School, 5620 Southwest 61st St. The ride begins at 7 a.m. People can choose from a 60-, 88- or 102-mile route.

The ride, a 45-mile or approximately 65-mile route, begins at 7 a.m. Sunday, also at the middle school. All routes end at the school.

To ride, register online at msmidamerica.org. There is a $30 fee. Each participant is required to raise at least $200. Volunteers are needed to help register cyclists, manage rest stops and to encourage participants.
