Kansas corn crop begins to mature

? This week’s snapshot of Kansas crops shows 3 percent of Kansas corn has now matured, signaling fall harvest is getting closer.

In its weekly crop weather update, Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service rated the state’s corn crop as 10 percent excellent and 41 percent good. About 37 percent is rated as fair with 9 percent poor and 3 percent very poor.

Other crops also are faring well as weather remains mild with scattered rain across most of the state this past week.

¢ Sorghum condition is rated 13 percent excellent, 52 percent good, 26 percent fair, 7 percent poor and 2 percent very poor.

¢ Soybean condition is rated 17 percent good, 51 percent good, 27 percent fair, 4 percent poor and 1 percent very poor.
