National Clown Week opens August

August 7, 2008

Aug. 1-7 was National Clown Week. On Aug. 2, 1971, President Richard Nixon signed into law a joint congressional resolution calling for such a designation of the first week in August. The event has since grown into International Clown Week.

The Lawrence Busker Fest, set for Aug. 22-24, will feature magicians, jugglers and acrobats including the Twin Jesters - Kent and Kevin Mercer, graduates of the Ringling Brothers Circus School.

Catch more clowns at the world-famous Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus at Kansas City's Sprint Center, Sept. 10-14.

If you're interested in pursuing a career as a rodeo clown, you can enroll in the Sankey Clown/Bullfighting School Aug. 29-Sept. 1 in Rose Hill.
