Soldier convicted of killing her ex-boyfriend

? A military judge has convicted a Fort Riley soldier of involuntary manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of her ex-boyfriend outside a Manhattan bar last fall.

A sentencing hearing was to begin Friday to decide on punishment for specialist Latoya Pitts in the death of Private Antonio Ortiz last October.

A Fort Riley statement said the maximum punishment possible is 10 years of confinement, a dishonorable discharge, rank reduction to E-1 and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.

Pitts and Ortiz got into a violent confrontation after leaving Silverado’s, a tavern in Manhattan. Ortiz was with another woman at the time.
