Man charged in crash that killed 2 bicyclists

? A suburban Kansas City man is charged with two counts involuntary manslaughter in a traffic accident that killed two bicyclists.

The charges against 49-year-old William K. Johnson, of Grandview, stem from an Aug. 6 crash in Grandview near Longview Lake. Fifty-nine-year-old Larry Gaunt was pronounced dead at the scene, and his 14-year-old granddaughter, Sierra Gaunt, died later at a hospital.

Court documents said an accident reconstruction by police indicated Johnson was speeding when his pickup truck went off the roadway due to driver inattention. According to court documents, Johnson overcompensated, causing the truck to skid before hitting the bicycles.

Each charge carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison.
