KUMC recognized by family medicine group

The Kansas University School of Medicine was recognized nationally for its number of graduates entering family medicine residencies.

The American Academy of Family Physicians recently released a report and ranked the School of Medicine first in family medicine graduates and third in percentage of total graduates who choose family medicine residencies.

KU led the nation with 39 first-year family medicine residents, or 21.9 percent of graduates. KU was also No. 1 based on the three-year average percentage of graduates who became residents in the field.

“We’re very proud that at both the Wichita and Kansas City campuses, we are able to maintain interest in family medicine among our medical students and we are proud to again be a national leader,” said Dr. Joshua Freeman, professor and chairman of the department of family medicine.
