Topeka Two judges and 12 attorneys have applied for a new position on the Kansas Court of Appeals.
Legislators set aside money this year for a 13th appellate judge, effective Jan. 1.
It will be the eighth appointment to the court for Gov. Kathleen Sebelius since she took office in January 2003.
Among applicants are two Douglas County attorneys: Suzanne Carey McAllister, Lawrence, and Terri L. Bezek, Baldwin City.
The Supreme Court Nominating Commission, which screens appellate court applications, plans to interview candidates Nov. 12-13. It will submit three finalists' names to Sebelius.
Among the applicants are Shawnee County District Judge David E. Bruns and State Administrative Law Judge Bruce E. Moore, of Salina, who handles workers' compensation cases.
Also seeking the job is Ward E. Loyd, of Garden City, who served in the Kansas House from 1999 to 2006.
Other attorneys who have applied are Rick E. Bailey, Wichita; Terry E. Beck, Topeka; Douglas M. Crotty III, Garden City; Timothy J. Moore, Wichita; Steven J. Obermeier, Olathe; Nancy A. Ogle, Wichita; Thomas A. Sheehan, Prairie Village; Steven P. Smith, Wichita; and Melissa Taylor Standridge, Overland Park.
