State budget sees $41M windfall
The state collected nearly $41 million more than expected in September.
It’s good news for legislators and state officials as they work on budget proposals for lawmakers to consider next year.
Figures showed the state collected more than $589 million in September. The state’s official financial forecast predicted revenues of less than $550 million. The difference, $40.5 million, is about 7 percent.
The windfall brightened the overall numbers for the current fiscal year, which began July 1. Revenues had been running slightly behind expectations but are now $37 million ahead for those three months, nearly $1.15 billion.
State officials plan to issue a new financial forecast in November.
