Man gets 15 years for weapons conviction

A federal judge last week ordered a Lawrence man to serve a prison term for a weapons violation conviction.

On Oct. 2, Timothy J. James was sentenced by U.S. District Judge John Lungstrum to 15 years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Earlier this year James pleaded guilty in federal court in Kansas City, Kan., to being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.

The charge stems from an investigation by Lawrence police in 2006. James was arrested on a federal indictment in December 2006. He had been working as a bail enforcement agent.

According to information in the indictment, James was convicted in 1983 of felony stealing and three counts of second-degree burglary in Cape Girardeau County in Missouri.
