Wilk named to education improvement committee

? State Rep. Kenny Wilk, R-Lansing, has been named by House Speaker Melvin Neufeld, R-Ingalls, to a committee that will make recommendations on improving math and science education in Kansas.

Neufeld said the committee will help increase Kansas’ efforts in existing bioscience research in animal and plant health.

“This advisory committee will develop a vision for education in Kansas that includes a long-term commitment to math and science so we can build on that foundation,” he said.

Also appointed by Neufeld to the committee, which will meet before the January startup of the 2008 legislative session, were Ed Hammond, president of Fort Hays State University; Mitch Counce, general manager of Servi-Tech of Dodge City; and state Rep. Sheryl Spalding, R-Overland Park.
