99th soldier from Fort Riley killed
Fort Riley ? Pvt. Oscar Sauceda Jr., 21, was killed in combat by enemy small-arms fire Tuesday in Baghdad, the Army said Wednesday.
He was the 99th soldier from Fort Riley to die in Iraq since the war began in 2003. An Associated Press count shows that at least 3,432 members of the U.S. military have died.
Sauceda, of Del Rio, Texas, was an infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
He entered the Army in February 2006 and began serving with the 1st Infantry Division in July. It was his first deployment to Iraq.
More than 6,000 Fort Riley soldiers are deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, with additional units scheduled to leave later this year.
