Law enforcement report

¢ A 51-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Wednesday on a charge of aggravated sexual battery and battery when a Lawrence police officer in the 600 block of Kentucky Street observed two subjects in a physical altercation in the gazebo area of Buford M. Watson Jr. Park. The officer saw the man, who had his pants down around his thighs, restraining a 35-year-old woman. He pushed the woman away when he saw police.

¢ Lawrence police were dispatched to the 800 block of Massachusetts Street at 11:06 a.m. Thursday to an attempted robbery. Two teenage males approached a 43-year-old Lawrence woman and tried to remove her purse by force. The victim was unable to retain her purse and the males ran from the area to the south. An officer stopped the two suspects, a 19-year-old Lawrence man and a 16-year-old from Eudora at 10th and Rhode Island streets. The 19-year-old is being charged with attempted robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, criminal disposal of a firearm, defacing a firearm and contributing to a child’s misconduct and is at the Douglas County Jail. The juvenile will be charged with carrying a concealed firearm, defacing a firearm and aiding a felon. He will be taken to the Juvenile Detention Center. The victim was not injured during the robbery attempt. The investigation continues.

¢ Officers were dispatched Thursday to the 1200 block of Massachusetts Street near the small children’s pool in South Park. A 25-year-old transient was arrested without incident for attacking a mother with a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old child. The woman, who had been struck in the face, did not require medical treatment.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ A 19-year-old female U-Haul employee reported criminal property damage to business vehicles at 540 Kasold Drive at 7:32 a.m. Wednesday. She reported five vehicle door windows and one windshield were damaged at U-Haul in the amount of $1,400.

Injury accidents

¢ Two women were involved in a rollover accident about 12:50 p.m. Thursday at Fifth and Michigan streets. The driver of a 1996 Nissan Maxima reportedly ran a stop sign as she was traveling westbound on Fifth Street, according to Lawrence police Sgt. William Cory. She then struck a 2004 Pontiac sport utility vehicle traveling south on Michigan Street. The Pontiac rolled over and ended up in the middle of Michigan Street on the west side of the intersection. The driver of the Pontiac, who was conscious, was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

¢ An injury accident took place at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday in the area of McDonald Drive and West Second Street, when a car rolled forward, striking the rear of a second vehicle driven by Elsie Haines, a 45-year-old Lawrence woman. She later complained of pain to the back of her head and dizziness, but refused medical treatment. The driver of the first car, 46-year-old Luann Lind, of Valley, Neb., was cited for inattentive driving.
