Friend: Shooter distraught over breakup

? The gunman who killed two people and wounded two police officers was distraught over his breakup with the mother of one of the victims, a friend says.

Police have identified the shooter as Joshua Glover, 21, of Peck. The hostage standoff early Wednesday at the Wichita apartment building ended when Glover shot and killed Danielle Weixelbaum, 18, and seriously wounded Montrell Pickens, 22.

A resident of a neighboring apartment, William Summers, 51, was killed by bullets that penetrated his wall, police said. Two police officers were also shot when they arrived at the scene. Their wounds were not life-threatening.

Dustin Dvorak, a friend of Glover’s, said that Glover had tried calling the woman several times Sunday night, then drove to her apartment when no one answered. When he arrived at the apartment, he realized that the woman had been out with a former boyfriend, Dvorak said.

Wichita police said Glover drove to the Village Park at Woodgate Apartments about 3 a.m. Wednesday and went to the third-floor apartment of a 35-year-old woman he had been seeing. Although the woman wasn’t home, police said, Glover opened fire inside and outside the apartment.

Weixelbaum was the daughter of the woman Glover had been seeing, Dvorak said.
