Pampering your green thumbs

Some of us simply love the feel of well-moisturized soil. We dig with our bare hands, making sure our plants and flowers are properly nestled in their pots and beds.

But gardening gloves-free can leave your hands dry and thirsting for something more than a good wash and a squirt of lotion. Skin-care companies are eager to come to the rescue.

¢ The Gardeners Collection: From Crabtree & Evelyn, the Gardeners Collection is sold separately and in kits. The signature product is the hand therapy cream ($21), which is applied before you head outdoors. It acts as a barrier, stopping the dirt from getting into the drier areas of your hands. It contains plenty of botanical goodies, as well as nutrient-rich shea butter.

¢ Gardener’s Hand Healer: From Bath & Body Works, there are two new products in this collection, including an exfoliating cleanser ($12) and a fortifying nail and cuticle salve ($9).

¢ Gardener’s Therapies (pictured above): From Target, there’s a hand scrub ($9.99), muscle soak ($14.99) for when you ache all over, body cream ($7.99), massage bar ($7.99) and a cute green boot soap ($1.99).

¢ YardGlove lotion: From www.cleanairgardening.com, YardGlove lotion ($9.99) also serves as a barrier while you’re up to your elbows in mulch and compost. Its natural ingredient list includes oat flour, aloe vera and beeswax.
