State AG to review police dog’s death

? The state attorney general’s office has been asked to review the death of a drug-detecting dog that was left in a vehicle in hot weather, authorities said.

Sheriff Lamar Shoemaker said he sought the state review to discover the cause of Idol’s death.

The dog’s handler, Deputy Cory Lay, was disciplined, but Shoemaker declined to offer details.

Shoemaker said Lay has been a dog handler for five years and had no history of negligence.

“He made a mistake,” Shoemaker said. He called the death “a tragic error.”
