Sebelius to help lead Democrats’ convention

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has been appointed one of three co-chairwomen of the Democratic Party’s national convention next year in Denver.

“The national convention is one of our best opportunities to share our Democratic message of progress with the nation,” Sebelius, left, said.

The nominations were made by Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean.

The party’s candidate for president will be selected during the Aug. 25-28, 2008, convention.

In addition to Sebelius, the other two co-chairwomen are Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and Texas state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, of San Antonio. The co-chairwomen are generally seen as representative of the party.

Dean named U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as chairwoman of the convention.

Sebelius also serves as chairwoman of the Democratic Governors Association.
