Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Jay Pine, Lawrence, was promoted to chief master sergeant on Jan. 6. He is vehicle management flight chief for the 190th Air Refueling Group at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka. He has served with the 190th since March 1990.

He is the son of Jim and Barbara Pine and the late Cheryl Fulcher Pine. His wife, Pam Pine, is employed by Free State High School.

Air Force 1st Lt. Charles E. Dorssom has arrived for duty at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Okla. Dorssom is a weather officer assigned to the 71st Fighter Wing, and has served in the military for two years.

He is the son of James and Martha Dorssom, Lecompton, and is a 1997 graduate of Perry-Lecompton High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in 2003 from Kansas University.

Marine Don Carbaugh has been promoted to corporal. He is stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, N.C. He is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq in late January.

Carbaugh is a 2004 graduate of Lawrence High School.
