North Platte boy released from hospital

? A North Platte boy critically injured in a crash last month that claimed the lives of his mother and two siblings has been released from the hospital.

Eight-year-old Jonathen Hastings has spent the past month at Children’s Hospital in Denver, recovering from a broken leg and short-term memory loss suffered in the Jan. 20 crash.

Tom Walker, senior pastor at North Platte’s Berean Church, said Jonathen was released from the hospital Thursday and was expected to be back in North Platte this week.

Doctors expect the boy to make a full recovery, said Walker, who speaks often with Jonathen and his father, Scott Hastings.

Jonathen’s mother, 28-year-old Jodee Hastings, and his two siblings – LynDee, 5, and Paiton, 3 – were killed when their vehicle slid across a median on Interstate 80 between Kearney and Minden and was struck by an oncoming semitrailer.

Authorities have said weather was a factor.
