Illinois River panel to reconsider booze ban
Oklahoma ? After a year of arrests, fights and drownings, the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission plans this week to reconsider an alcohol ban on public-access points along the popular Illinois River.
The watchdog board could not come to a conclusion at its January meeting but will discuss it again when it meets Tuesday.
Four Oklahoma state parks and one national park site have banned beer in certain areas in the past few years. Those bans have not inhibited business or visitor traffic, some say.
Some commissioners want to limit the size of ice chests and ban beer only at public-access points, not on the river itself, while others think greater enforcement may be the key.
