Baldwin City teacher arrested for battery

A Baldwin High School teacher was arrested Thursday in connection with a domestic battery incident in Lawrence.

David Theis, 37, Lawrence, was arrested by Lawrence Police after Baldwin City Police detained him in the school parking lot. He was taken to Douglas County Jail, but released on his own recognizance, pending his next court appearance on charges of domestic battery and criminal restraint.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Tarik Khatib said the arrest was the result of an alleged fight between a local couple, who live in the 3200 block of West 21st Street reported at 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

Theis is a science teacher at BHS and has worked in the district for several years. Supt. Paul Dorathy said he could say little about the incident because it is a personnel matter, but he also said school officials would look into the incident.
