Mom asks pregnant daughter to call
Girl, 16, may be on the run with boyfriend
Wichita ? The mother of a pregnant teenager on the run with the suspect in the death of an El Dorado college student is pleading for her daughter to call home and let her know she is OK.
In a statement e-mailed Tuesday to The Associated Press, Sandy Martens wrote that she would like to tell her daughter: “i miss you with all my heart… many people are praying for your return because they miss you… including your friends in others towns that you know… i love you and i miss that budha belly… and i want to feel my grandchild kick again… i love you victoria.. unconditional.”
Authorities are looking for her daughter, Victoria, and believe she is still with suspect Israel Mireles, 24. He was seen on Nov. 23 leaving a bar with Emily Sander, the Butler Community College student who led a secret life as an Internet porn model. Her body was found Thursday.
The search for Mireles and his girlfriend continued Tuesday. Family and police fear for the safety of his 16-year-old girlfriend, who is seven months pregnant with a girl she and Mireles have named Isabelle.
Sandy Martens said Tuesday she has not heard from her daughter since the girl sent a text message to her days after the couple fled. That message said only that she had a lot to tell her mother.
Authorities found Sander’s body about 50 miles east of El Dorado as searchers retraced the route they believed Mireles took to pick up his girlfriend in Baxter Springs, where the Martens family had spent the Thanksgiving holiday.
Martens told The Hays Daily News last week that her daughter called on Nov. 24, about an hour after she and Mireles left Baxter Springs, to let her know her boyfriend had an altercation in a hotel room with a guy that tried to rob him and that there was blood in the hotel room.
Police have confirmed a large amount of blood was found in the room, prompting the nearly weeklong search for Sander that resulted in the discovery of her body. Mireles was believed to be headed to Mexico, where he has family.
Funeral services for Sander will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Burial will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado. Visitation with the family will be this evening at Carlson Funeral Home.
