Officers investigate residential burglaries

Jefferson County Sheriff’s officers are investigating a series of residential burglaries that have occurred since Tuesday in the Grantville area.

Officers are looking for an older model red Chevrolet pickup with a black stripe that the burglars may be driving, Undersheriff Jeff Herrig said. An officer saw the truck at a home that later was reported as burglarized. The officer didn’t know that the truck didn’t belong on the property and was answering other calls when he saw it, Herrig said.

As of Thursday morning, officers were investigating two burglaries, as well as two attempted burglaries.

Apparently, alarm systems deterred the would-be burglars, Herrig said.

The burglaries are thought to have occurred during the day while residents were at work, he said.

Herrig asked that anyone with information about the truck or the burglaries call 911 or the sheriff’s office, (785) 863-2351.
