Fort Riley soldier killed in Afghanistan

? Two Army soldiers, one from Fort Riley, were killed during noncombat convoy operations when a Humvee rolled over in Afghanistan, the military reported Saturday.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Daniel E. Miller, of Rossford, Ohio, and Army Sgt. 1st Class Scott Carney, of Ankeny, Iowa, died when the Humvee they were riding in flipped Friday near Herat, Afghanistan, according to Fort Riley officials.

Miller, 43, was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, at Fort Riley.

Carney, 37, was assigned to the National Guard’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division in Boone, Iowa.

Miller entered the Army in June 1986, and began serving with the 1st Infantry Division in November 2006. This was his first deployment to Afghanistan in support of the war on terror.

He is the 122nd Fort Riley soldier to die in Iraq or Afghanistan.

No further details were released and the accident is currently under investigation.
