Former Woodlands racetrack manager charged, sought for concealing improper betting

State authorities said today they’re on the lookout for the former manager of the Woodlands racetrack in Wyandotte County.

James Gartland, the former general manager, has been charged with three felony counts of making false information and four counts of computer crimes. Prosecutors say Garland improperly allowed track patrons to make bets without paying – and made false reports and financial entries to conceal his actions.

Atty. Gen. Paul Morrison’s office said that Gartland is believed to be out of the country. Morrison asked that people with information about Gartland’s whereabouts call (785) 296-0512.

Morrison’s office said the charges are the result of an investigation started by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission.

“The Racing and Gaming Commission will keep a trained eye on the gaming industry in Kansas and will continue to be vigilant as the gambling industry expands,” Stephen Martino, the commission’s executive director, said in a press release.
